About the Artist

Shawn Falchetti graduated from Wilkes University in 1998 with a major in mechanical engineering and a minor in fine art. He began working with colored pencils in the same year after searching for a more apartment friendly medium than oil paints. In 2004 he joined the Colored Pencil Society of America, and is still active in the local district chapter. His preferred subject is the figure. Between colored pencil projects, Shawn can usually be found snapping black and white photograph. Similar to his drawings, his photographs tend to focus on people. Occassionally the sharp lines of architectural elements also emerge as subjects.

Artist’s Statement: “People captivate me, whether it is through sketching the infinitely varied angles, lines, and contours of the human form, or through reducing a single moment into the simplicity of black and white tones. There is a mood to every place and time, hidden behind the bustling crowds in a busy street scene, and finding that mood, conveying the feeling of that moment, is my goal. There is subtle beauty in us all, and, like finding the warm, unexpected colors tucked away in the shadows on a great painting, the parts we overlook often have the greatest interest. Hopefully my drawings will convey this for the viewer.”
