Life Drawing – Archives

Tags:

When my website crashed, I lost the Gestures section, which had a nice weekly post of my life drawings. I re-photographed a few of my favorites and compiled them below as an archive. I’ll add a second archive once I figure out where I squirreled away my filled tablet from last year.

Edit: Found my filled tablet! I’ve added some new images below.

    • HI Mary Beth! This was a few years ago at the Wyoming Valley Art League. Sue Obaza put together a life drawing group and took care of scheduling the models. We all split the cost of the model’s fee. I think we had about 8 artists regularly attend. There wasn’t any instruction, but we did have a nice regular routine of several 2 minute gestures followed by three 20 minute poses. Sometimes we would have the model keep the same pose for the 20 minute sketches, and have a 60 minute long pose. Mostly I used vine charcoal, and then some sanguine Derwent drawing pencils on toned paper for the long poses. I have to say that I’m really envious of the people who can get a good, solid drawing down in 20 minutes, looking at a model from across a room – a whole different experience that my work process with colored pencils!
