The relationship between light and mood has always fascinated me. There’s an inherent drama to a high contrast figure bathed in sunlight, while a quiet, diffused interior has a lazy, colorful atmosphere which suggests what’s behind the scenes has a whole life of its own. Indeed what’s behind the scenes and tucked into the shadows is far more interesting than what routinely gets the spotlight. Because of this, many of my figures are swathed in dim lighting, making you look a little more closely to see what’s going on. Hopefully this will help convey the mood and feel of the moment, and give the viewer some insight into the personalities of the figures who appear in my works.
