WVAL Colored Pencil Workshop

There was a good turnout for this weekend’s workshop at the Wyoming Valley Art League, with 16 members attending. We had time to work with white, red, and black Colourfix paper, and I gave everyone dark green and gray samples to take home. The workshop’s title was “Capturing Light with Colored Pencil and Sanded Papers”. Here’s a snapshot of the main exercise, a rose, done on 4″ x 6″ black Colourfix:

Glad your workshop turned out great Shawn!! Also glad I found your blog, which I didn’t realize you had. If I lived closer, I would have taken part in your workshop. I love working on Colourfix!!!

Is your entry for CPSA done yet?????

Thanks Nancy! Great to see a fellow Scribbletalker here. I’ll be sure to add a link to your blog. I’ve got my two entries chosen for the CPSA entry - now I’m just in the process of sizing them correctly and submitting them to the website. It’s nice that they’re two that I’ve had giclee prints made, since the giclee place provided me a CD with a high res scan….so half the work was done. Have you submitted yours? Any problems with the Cafe website?

Oops, sorry. I hit the submit button by mistake before I even typed anything in. *Blush* My bad!

I just - literally - just sent in my entries for CPSA. I sent them in via that Cafe website. Weird requirements for the photos though. The entry was smooth and easy! I was pretty impressed. I had to renew my membership with CPSA first though, but I didn’t get the coupon code so I could get the member discount. Bummer!

I didn’t get the two pieces done that I wanted to enter this year. We have had a rough winter this year, especially the last five weeks. We’ve had two strains of the flu run through my family (everyone got both of them), plus I had an acute sinus infection from my allergies in between bouts with the flu. Then, the exact same time I got the second strain of flu, my father-in-law died. I lost track of time with all of this happening, and I was too sick to draw (believe it or not!!!) anyway, I took out a piece from last year and touched it up a bit, made it better and entered it. I also put in one from last year (a macro shot of a tiger’s eyes). I was desperate to figure out what I could enter for the second piece! I have so many that have pastels in it too, and I can’t enter those.

Anyway, yes I did enter and I am now all set. Are you guys going out to Seattle this year for the exhibition???? My husband really wants me to go, so maybe depending on the finances.

Sorry to hear about your father-in-law, and the rough times during this winter. Hope you’re feeling better.

It took some effort to get my submissions sized correctly, with the letterbox borders, but overall I didn’t have any issues with the online submission. I entered Cascade and Distraction. I just had a solo show and those two pieces got the most comments - so it helped make the selection easier.

We’re almost definitely going to Seattle (even if I don’t get accepted). I had a great time at last year’s show - getting to meet all of the other artists was a ton of fun, as well as seeing so many great colored pencil pieces gathered in one place.

    Cheers,
    Shawn
